Over the years, I realized that most of my projects revolve around a small set of ideas. These principles shape the products I build, the communities I participate in, and the life I try to live.
Over the years, I realized that most of my projects revolve around a small set of ideas.I rarely think about them consciously when making decisions. They simply emerged through years of building, creating, failing, and starting over. These principles shape the products I build, the communities I participate in, and the life I try to live. They are not rules. They are observations that have proven useful so far.
Health First
Most opportunities become irrelevant if you don't have the energy to pursue them. For a long time, I treated health as something that could be postponed until after the next launch, the next project, or the next milestone. The reality turned out to be much simpler.Everything compounds on top of health.Focus, creativity, relationships, ambition, and even happiness become easier when your body and mind are functioning well.Nothing I build is worth sacrificing the foundation it depends on.
Builders Over Consumers
Creating something changes the way you see the world.Whether it's a company, a blog post, a design system, a piece of software, or a story, building teaches lessons that consumption never can.The internet offers endless opportunities to consume.I try to spend more time creating than reacting. Not because consumption is bad, but because the most meaningful experiences in my life came from making things that didn't exist before.
Open Knowledge
Almost everything I've built was made possible by people who shared their work openly.Open-source software, articles, tutorials, communities, and conversations compressed years of learning into months.Knowledge grows when it's shared.Whenever possible, I try to contribute back through code, writing, design systems, or simply documenting what I've learned along the way.
Long-Term Thinking
The most valuable things I've built took far longer than expected.Projects grow slowly.Relationships grow slowly.
Trust grows slowly.
The internet often rewards immediacy, but meaningful work tends to emerge from consistency rather than intensity.
I try to make decisions that still make sense years from now, not just weeks from now.
Sustainable Growth
Growth is exciting.
Sustainability is underrated.
I've become increasingly interested in building things that can survive for decades rather than grow as quickly as possible.
This applies to businesses, communities, habits, and even personal ambition.
Not everything needs to become enormous.
Many things simply need to endure.
Shared Infrastructure
The modern internet is built on layers of infrastructure created by others.
Most builders stand on foundations they did not create.
I believe one of the most valuable things we can do is build tools that enable others to build.
Design systems, publishing platforms, open-source projects, and educational resources create leverage far beyond their original scope.
The impact of infrastructure is often invisible, but it shapes everything built on top of it.
Human Connection
Technology changes quickly.
Human nature changes slowly.
The tools we use continue to evolve, but relationships remain at the center of meaningful work and meaningful lives.
Behind every product, community, company, and story are people trying to understand each other a little better.
I expect this principle to remain true long after the technologies discussed on this site become obsolete.
